New Roads is a K-12 college-preparatory, independent school in Santa Monica, California. New Roads School seeks a dynamic, experienced, organized music professional to head its K-12 music department. The K-12 Music Director is responsible for developing, coordinating, and supervising New Roads' music programs. The position recruits and trains music teachers and oversees school productions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach Rock and Jazz band classes
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plan and instructional materials for students K-12 grades
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students, provide appropriate feedback,
and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
Communicate necessary information to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
Participate in department, school, and parent meetings
Guide K-12 scope and sequence of course offerings
Plan class schedules
Mentor, manage and encourage music staff K-12
Oversee and manage event production for school musicals, concerts, and events (as needed)
Collaborate with music staff on repertoire choices
Transcribe and arrange music
Interface with other school department heads and administrators
Manage the music department budgets
Coordinate guest artists or field trips
Maintain school instruments and music technology
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred in related field
Candidates should be musicians adept at rock, jazz and concert music
Ability and knowledge to read music and play by ear proficiently
Ability to work with adults and young people from all walks of life.
