Reports To: Director of Positive Education and Division Heads
The Shipley School is seeking a Coordinator of Service Learning for the 2018-2019 school year. The Coordinator will work with the Director of Positive Education and Division Heads in developing, planning, and implementing Service Learning throughout the Shipley community.
Work with the Director of Positive Education and Division Heads towards the goal of integrating Service Learning throughout the Shipley Community through a variety of activities including, but not limited to:
Supporting the school’s mission for “compassionate participation in the world” and commitment to Positive Education by developing a cohesive plan and scheduled Service Learning activities for students in grades PK-12;
Cultivating and sustaining relationships and activities with outside organizations who provide meaningful opportunities for the Shipley’s Service Learning Program (e.g. Timothy School, Andrew Jackson);
Collaborating with administration and other colleagues on planning signature events/programs (Super Saturday, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Swamp Night, Positive Paws, Service Days, Spirit Dress Days) that are directly tied to the ongoing Service Learning commitments of the School;
Ensuring that signature events/programs are executed, managed and staffed appropriately according to planning with administration (see above);
Working with the Service Learning representatives and student leaders in each division;
Organizing and planning the capstone Service Projects in collaboration with the Upper, Middle, and Lower School administrations;
Maintaining records of Service requirements for Upper School students and engaging students in Service Learning through assemblies, presentations, and other activities;
Teaching in an area of qualification and need in the Middle or Upper School;
Teaching two Service Learning courses within the SEED department;
Serving as a student advisor within one division of the school;
Participating in meetings of the engagement committee, as well as Division Heads and other school leaders to enhance collaboration and consistency across the school;
All other duties as assigned.
Experience in the implementation of Service Learning in Education;
Exceptional written and oral communication skills;
Outstanding interpersonal skills across a variety of constituencies (students, parents, trustees, faculty, community leaders, etc.) in a PreK-12 school environment;
Superb organizational skills needed to plan and implement community-wide events;
A strong desire to collaborate with passionate educational leaders;
Knowledge of independent schools is preferred, but not required;
Some availability on evenings and weekends;
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and Google Platform.
