AIM Academy is proud to announce the opening of an additional Middle Science teaching position for the fall of 2018. AIM Academy is searching for a professional educator to join our collaborative team. Here at AIM, an interdisciplinary curriculum challenges students to think critically, and students learn to identify connections between ideas and how one area of study can inform or influence another.
Since AIM Academy is dedicated to the work of equity and diversity, candidates should value engaging in open dialogue, questioning, confronting assumptions, and attuning to all voices. Middle School classrooms are small by design to allow for differentiation of instruction alongside collaborative, project-based learning.
The Science Courses are designed around - teacher built curriculum that integrates multiple resources and techniques to teach scientific concepts (not textbook driven). Hands-on opportunities are crucial for building understanding and assessing student learning.
These resources assist students in developing and enriching their higher-level comprehension skills. By combining technology with a multitude of reading strategies and questioning techniques, teachers are able to aid students in deepening their understanding of the core content areas in the sciences.
In addition to science vocabulary acquisition and reading comprehension, writing is integrated into all aspects of the curriculum with explicit expository reading and writing instruction during the science blocks (45 minutes in 6th and 7th / 90 minutes in 8th). Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate a knowledge of exemplary language instruction (vocabulary, expository reading/writing instruction), as well as knowledge and practice supporting students overall executive functioning.
