SHS is seeking excellent candidates for a middle school English teaching position for the 2018-2019 academic year. This position is full-time beginning August 6. 2018, teaching in the classroom and participating in the Sacred Heart community. Requirements include a Master's degree in English and a minimum of three years of experience as a lead-teacher or a BA/BS degree with a teaching credential and substantial recent and relevant lead-teaching experience. Successful candidates will be able to successfully teach English and instill a love of the written word to middle school students . In addition to stellar teaching skills, an ideal candidate will possess a high level of emotional intelligence, a gentle and caring attitude and most important, a willingness to collaborate with a dynamic team of engaged educators. Essential Functions include and are not limited to: Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts. Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records. Evaluates and grades students' class work, assignments, and papers. Creates and delivers high quality daily lessons, while addressing the varied learning needs of individual students. Utilizes varied methods and approaches to material, integrating technology, assessments, projects, etc. to encourage and create engaged learning in the classroom. Responds to evaluations and feedback professionally and constructively and demonstrate a commitment to professional growth. Work to build community in the classroom and across the student body.
Qualifications include and are not limited to: Master's degree or post graduate work in English. Will consider a BA/BS degree with a teaching credential and substantial recent and relevant experience. A minimum of three years teaching, preferably in an independent or Catholic school environment. Strong teaching ability; enjoy working with children and adolescents. Commitment to equity and inclusion. Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English. Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community. Obvious passion for the academic subject matter being taught.
