LREI is searching for an a Registered Nurse to work part-time in its high school division. The position for the 2018-19 school year will be three days per week, shared with another Registered Nurse who works two days per week. This position has the potential to become full-time for the 2019-2020 school year.
The ideal candidate will be able to provide age-appropriate care to children from preK through 12th grade, and will have some flexibility to provide substitute coverage on off-days to the other nurses in the lower/middle and high school divisions.
The nurse will report to the director of the school work closely with the division heads, members of administrative staff and the faculty. Successful candidates must possess the ability to guide families with wisdom, warmth, and intelligence, and the ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, parents, and students and will hold high professional standards. The nurse will understand that the role involves providing both comfort and medical intervention.
Perform nursing assessment and intervention for illnesses and injuries during the school day, and chart all visits in the Magnus system;
Daily medication administration, including controlled substance counts, using the Magnus system;
Maintain health records (yearly physicals and immunization records) as well as forms relating to travel/trips, emergency care and medication using the Magnus system;
Work with other nurses to ensure compliance with school policy and NYC/state requirements;
Communicate pertinent medical and health information with employees and families;
Maintain the nurse's office, including supply ordering;
Prepare documentation and supplies to accompany overnight trips;
Administer annual influenza vaccines for staff and faculty;
Arrange for CPR and First Aid certification for teachers;
Work in collaboration with the Wellness Team to coordinate, plan, execute, evaluate and provide health services to the student community;
Refer families for appropriate follow up medical care, contact families to follow up on absences and medical conditions;
Give health related information to students or families as directed by the principals;
Proactively provide the administration with updates regarding pressing health issues;
Attend faculty and staff meetings and provide education on health issues as needed.
Requires Current New York State RN License, recent medical experience coupled with strong assessment skills, nursing degree from an accredited college or university. Experience as a nurse working with children and adolescents. Strong communication skills are essential as there is regular contact with LREI families, faculty and staff. Ability to make each family feel that their health is a priority for the school
