The successful applicant for this position will have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and a minimum of five years of crew coaching experience. This candidate should be an excellent communicator, energetic, with proven people and managerial skills who relishes the opportunity to work with a diverse group of young men and women in a situation where academics are priority one. Experience in independent schools or higher education preferred.
This position reports to the Director of Athletics in managing the entire crew program, which currently includes both Upper and Middle School students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead a sport program which takes place 10 minutes away from campus.
Develop and institute a program of sequential development for all teams and individuals.
The coach must develop a good rapport with numerous individuals and community groups including but not limited to team personnel, the student body, parents, faculty, administration, maintenance, officials, media representatives, and fellow coaches.
The coach will work with coaches of other sports to encourage students to participate on other teams.
Diligence, enthusiasm, integrity, honesty and love of the sport are all part of the professional pride that should be exhibited by any coach. Personal appearance and dress should be exemplary. Public demeanor and decorum should always reflect positively on the school and the athletic department.
All coaches must constantly take advantage of the opportunity for self-improvement. Regular attendance at rules clinics and training opportunities in specific fields is imperative. Keeping abreast of current literature in professional journals, magazines, and other media forms is also expected.
The use of sound and acceptable teaching practices.
Run well-organized practices using sound teaching progressions.
Complete pre-season planning well in advance of the season starting.
Complete a scouting plan early in the season and communicate your expectations to all of the people involved in this plan.
Assist in the distribution and collection of equipment.
Motivate students to improve individually and contribute to team improvement.
Hold a pre-season meeting with parents and rowers to inform them of the program philosophy as well as the rules, regulations, schedules, practice times, attendance, expectations, etc.

Education and/or Experience
A minimum of 5 years of crew coaching experience is required.
US Rowing Certification
Current CPR and First Aid Certifications
