Lincoln School, founded in 1884, is an independent K-12 Quaker girls’ school in Providence, Rhode Island. We are currently seeking a full-time Physical Education Department Head for the 2018–2019 school year.
The Head of the Physical Education Department will collaborate with members of the department and with division directors to set priorities for Lincoln’s Physical Education curriculum and program. He or she will direct, support and evaluate members of the physical education department, delegate responsibilities, and foster teamwork and collaboration. This person will also chair regular department meetings and participate in wider school community activities and initiatives. As Lincoln develops and implements a comprehensive health and wellness program in the coming school year, this person will communicate and collaborate with Division Heads, the Department Heads team, our Athletic Director, School Nurse, Psychologist, and Athletic Trainer. This person will also serve as an advisor in the Middle School, a coach for a minimum of one season, and will have a commitment to leading a strong PE program forward.
The ideal candidate will bring a history of collaborative, self-directed work, as well as a good sense of humor. Qualified candidates will have experience working with girls in elementary, middle, and high school, and an ability to develop a vision for a comprehensive physical education program across these ages which builds confidence, cooperation, physical health, strength, sports skills, positive social skills, and the value of exercise. Health teaching responsibilities will be determined by individual candidate’s experience in this area. A Master’s degree in Physical Education or related field is preferred with a minimum of 5 years of elementary and/or middle school classroom teaching required.
