Plymouth Meeting Friends is seeking an energetic and organized assistant teacher who will work as an assistant with both the Fourth and Fifth Grade classes.
Assistant teachers serve as a part of a teaching team with the lead teacher. The assistant teacher supports the lead teacher in delivering a highly interactive, integrated program by leading lessons and literature groups, devising and implementing formal and informal assessments, co-leading learning experiences outside of the classroom, and supporting an evolving social and integrated academic curriculum (language arts, math, social studies, science). The assistant also helps to organize the many details of designing an evolving and experiential program, such as making arrangements for field trips and record keeping.
A highly qualified candidate is one who:
Has at least two years of professional teaching experience at the upper elementary level
Has a strong alignment with Quaker testimonies in philosophy and teaching practice
Has experience and comfort with social-emotional community-building strategies and techniques and classroom management
Has experience supporting children in using tools for effective communication and conflict resolution
Is skilled in using workshop and inquiry approaches to learning and supporting diverse learning styles
Is familiar with current research, trends, and best practices in progressive elementary education
Is skilled at using technology for a variety of purposes
Is committed to and interested in working in a creative, dynamic values-based learning community
Enjoys being with and has respect for upper elementary aged children.
