The Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, founded in 1867, is an independent, Catholic, college-prep institution for girls offering 17 years of instruction for one-year-olds through twelfth grade. The Academy of the Sacred Heart is one of 24 Network of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States-Canada sponsored by the Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ).
The Academy of the Sacred Heart is seeking a full-time Dean of Students for the Upper School (grades 9-12). The Upper School Dean of Students is directly accountable to the Upper School Division Head and is a member of the administration team. S(he) collaborates with administration, faculty, students, and parents to ensure that the spirit and life of the Division reflect the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education. The Dean of Students serves as a point of information for students and responds to students' needs. The Dean acts as a liaison between administrators and student organizations, supervising several programs such as a Student Council. Social programs are managed through the office of the Dean of Students, as well as discipline-related processes and procedures. While the Dean of Students works primarily with non-academic issues, s(he) collaborates with other student-related programs such as athletics and college counseling.
To implement the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education.
To serve on the administrative team of the Upper School.
To connect with other Deans of Students in each Division to form a working collaboration between Divisions of the school, building school community.
To maintain the standing of the school among schools in the area, the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, and the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest and to connect with other Deans of Students within the Network to form collegial relationships.
To assume common responsibility in designing and implementing Division-wide policies and procedures.
To assist in long-range planning for the Division and the school.
To collaborate and coordinate with the Exchange Director.
To collaborate and coordinate with the activities of the Registrar.
To collaborate and coordinate with the Department of Counseling and College Counseling office when related to student needs, concerns, and issues, when necessary.
To oversee school-wide emergency procedures within the Division.
To maintain the budget for the Dean of Students' office.
To collaborate with the nurse to maintain updated Emergency Forms.
To prepare new content for the Upper School Parent/Student Handbook and update annually.
To provide support to homeroom and club moderators.
To provide support for planning and logistical coordination of on and off-campus student activities, such as field trips, retreats, drama productions, etc.
To coordinate with the faculty to plan appropriate and engaging student activities
To support school spirit within the Division and a healthy school climate.
To engage students in building a healthy school culture.
To guide and facilitate student activity in the spirit of wise freedom.
To administer the discipline processes and procedures in the Upper School.
To implement, coordinate, and supervise co-curricular activities in the Upper School.
To moderate Student Council and Student Council activities.
To administer the student drug testing program.
To coordinate Upper School events, proms, Congé, etc.
To communicate personal and affective progress of students.
To oversee all correspondence relating to student life programs, discipline, and procedures.
Louisiana teaching certificate and secondary school experience preferred
Familiarity or willingness to learn the Blackbaud On System
