Holy Ghost Preparatory School is seeking a full-time, experienced Math Teacher for the start of the 2018-2019 school year. The ideal candidate will have at least five years experience as a proven team leader with the ability and interest to teach all levels of high school mathematics, including Advanced Placement. All Holy Ghost students study Math for four years and a majority of them finish with Calculus BC/AB or Calculus. In addition, this person will serve on a team to help transition us into our $2M STEM Tower and Brennan Family Innovation. HGP seeks dynamic, innovative teachers with the ability to develop and design a curriculum around creativity, collaboration and creative thinking. Preference will be given to candidates up to date on best practices and initiatives which will reach a wide range of student learning styles. Solid foundations in mathematical principles are critical to this position. To that end the teacher will use these principles to promote an engaging and rigorous experience for the student which includes the following:
Implement tasks that promote reasoning and problem solving.
Build procedural fluency from conceptual understanding.
Facilitate meaningful mathematical discourse.
Elicit and use evidence of student thinking.
Candidates should have a strong interest in working in a collaborative environment with highly motivated students and an experienced faculty. A standard full-time position involves teaching five classes. In addition, a faculty member is expected to assume community responsibilities such as coaching or moderating a student organization or club.
Develop and maintain long range and daily instructional plans.
Integrate technology seamlessly into teaching strategies and practices.
Use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies that push students to reach a higher level of thinking.
Promote problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies.
Structure lessons that encourage risk-taking in learning and model lifelong learning.
Actively involve students in the classroom through group work, explorations, questioning, discussion, and other cooperative teaching techniques.
Assist in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan in order to improve student achievement and success.
