The School Counselor reports to the Division Heads. This part-time position is responsible for supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students in collaboration with their teachers. They will provide guidance and expertise in support of the school’s mission and strategic plan and have at least three years of experience in the counseling profession.
Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborate with the School’s psychologist through clear communication and intentional partnership to provide effective support
Provide counseling services and lead social skills groups to meet the social-emotional needs of students.
Support the school’s teachers and Division Heads in developing appropriate behavior support strategies for students whose behavior interferes with their learning
Partner with faculty to design and implement behavior plans to support student success in and out of the classroom
In support of school efforts, communicate with both families and outside service providers.
Respectfully engage with a diverse community and ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion is emphasized as a core value of the School
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent knowledge of child development, latest education theories and practices, and current trends in education and professional development
Demonstrated experience in a culturally diverse community including diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, language, family structure, sexual orientation, and gender identity
Familiarity with Responsive Classroom
Familiarity with integrating mindfulness approaches in classroom setting ? Effective collaboration skills with adults
Strong communication skills - written and verbal
Demonstrated effectiveness in facilitation of social skills groups
Creation of behavioral plans
Master’s Degree in School Counseling or School Psychology or related field required
3-5 years working as a school counselor required
Knowledge of students Pre-K through Grade 8
