The Caedmon School seeks an Associate teacher to teach Fourth Graders for the 2018-2019 school year. This position will assist two sections of Fourth grade and two Head teachers. These sections share one classroom.

We seek candidates who understand the role of teacher as a facilitator of student inquiry and the importance of a carefully prepared learning environment.
Classroom teaching. The ideal candidate possesses an understanding of the cognitive, social, and emotional development of 8 and 9 year olds. He or she should be versed in educational approaches that position the student as the driver of their own learning and in curricula based on student inquiry.
Professional growth. The ideal candidate is a perpetual learner and models this explicitly for the students. He or she is open to trying new approaches to curriculum, pedagogy, and strategies for meeting student needs; takes a receptive stance to feedback from colleagues; engages in thoughtful risk-taking in his or her teaching; and actively digs into workshops and discussions at faculty meetings and professional development events. He or she habitually reflects on his or her own teaching and the learning of each child.
Community. The ideal candidate brings a keen enthusiasm for the work; participates wholeheartedly in the life of the faculty; and conducts himself or herself professionally and warmly. He or she communicates often and clearly with colleagues about curriculum and student progress; freely shares resources and teaching strategies; and infuses planning sessions with fresh, innovative ideas. He or she practices strong perspective-taking skills whenever he or she collaborates with colleagues and families.
He or she will have opportunities to work with families and dialogue with them about the growth of their child and about the curriculum as it unfolds. Additionally, this individual will have opportunities to participate in family conferences and write progress reports.
Teach lessons in areas such as Math, Writing, Reading and Social Studies both independently and with the Head Teachers
Plan and work collegially with Head Teachers
Support Head Teachers in conducting family conferences and writing narrative report cards twice per year
Attend all faculty meetings; participate in one task force each year
Meet with administration twice per week about student growth and curriculum
Fulfill playground and lunchroom duties
A distinct fondness for young children
An interest in teaching a diverse group of students subject matter covering immigration and equity
Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and thoughtfulness in both lesson planning and in relating to students and families
Bachelor’s degree required
1-3 years teaching experience preferred
