Annie Wright Schools is seeking an Assistant Director in the Lower School to begin on August 6th, 2018.
Annie Wright Schools serves students from age three through high school. Annie Wright Lower and Middle Schools offers co-ed classrooms Preschool through Grade 8, while separate Upper Schools for boys and girls offer day and boarding options in Grades 9 through 12. Annie Wright Schools offers a continuum of International Baccalaureate programs, including the Primary Years Program in the Lower School.
Through leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the Lower School Assistant Director promotes and supports an engaging educational experience in which both students and teachers thrive. The Lower School Assistant Director supports the Lower School Division Director in the daily operation and program development of the Lower School Division. Anticipated duties of the job will include both those that are administrative and those that are broader and support the fundamentals of the program and best teaching practices. Duties may include but are not limited to the following: ? Collaboration with the Division Director for strategic thinking, problem solving, and program planning. ? Assistance to the Division Director in the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment for both students and faculty. ? As part of the collaborative pedagogical leadership team, support the ongoing work of the Primary Years Program, including teacher collaboration, study of the Program of Inquiry and preparation for reauthorizations. ? As part of the Lower School Student Support Team, strategize on student issues, take part in parent conferences when needed, facilitate differentiated reading groups and support the faculty on meeting student needs. ? Support of the Division Director in implementing the broader policies and procedures of Annie Wright Schools. ? Assistance in the faculty evaluation process. ? Help planning and facilitating weekly Lower School Community Chapel. ? Oversee and implement the daily schedule, including assigning duties and securing substitutes. ? Attendance at administrative meetings when the Division Director is unavailable. ? Help facilitating and taking notes at monthly grade level parent rep meetings. ? Assistance in proofing weekly grade level parent newsletters and twice yearly progress reports. ? Other duties as assigned.
The Assistant Director should have a strong teaching background in the lower school grades and professional experience in order to best support teaching excellence in the lower school faculty. Experience working within a PYP school is preferred. The personal qualifications of the Assistant Director should include compassion, initiative and follow through, ability to collaborate, flexibility, energy, and enthusiasm. The position requires a person who is an excellent communicator and listener, detail oriented, organized, and consistent.
