Mount Vernon Presbyterian School seeks an innovative and collaborative Kindergarten assistant teacher for the 2018-19 school year. Versatility, collaboration, and openness to innovative instructional practices are essential.
Part time position: Hours are 7:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support a positive classroom culture that embodies our school norms
Work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer
Intentionally infuse skills that foster communication, creative thinking, solution-seeking, ethical decision making, collaboration and innovation into building strong habits of the Mount Vernon Mind
Assist in planning, preparing, and organizing materials for learning
Assist in all aspects of student supervision to promote safety
Complete in-service training and professional development programs as specified
Willingly step into lead role when needed
Carry out all responsibilities associated with teaching the assigned class(es)
Participate in department, faculty, team, and grade-level meetings as called
Fulfill additional duties as assigned
The assistant teacher should have excellent communication skills, and be patient and energetic. Assistant teachers are expected to be able to give and receive instruction, as well as work independently.
A qualified applicant should be a dynamic, passionate teacher who is willing to experiment, work collaboratively with his or her lead teacher and the Lower School team, and have a desire to find ways to reach all styles of learning through differentiated instruction, student-centered teaching, positive classroom management and imaginative assessment methods.
A college degree in Education or a related field is preferable.
