Midtown International School seeks candidates for a full-time German teaching position in our Foreign Language Department.
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in German or related field (Advanced degree preferred). German native speakers with a teaching degree are welcomed to apply. He/She will have previous experience in a language classroom as a teacher or a teaching assistant. Ideally, he/she will have experience in gifted education. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching, and will provide engaging, authentic, and relevant learning activities. He/She will thrive in a collaborative environment working with other teachers of the foreign language department and the broader faculty in advancing the mission and vision of the school and the MIS promise that no one waits to learn.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Demonstrates knowledge of content, curriculum, methods and materials of middle and high school German.
Demonstrates knowledge of adolescent growth and development and creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students in middle and high school.
Teaches German courses from beginning and advanced German in middle school to German I - German III in high school.
Is a productive member of the foreign language department by attending meetings, updating course curricula, and supporting the goals for the department.
Plans a balanced German program and maintains organized, well-planned, and thoroughly researched lesson plans that reach all German learners and are aligned with the mission and objectives of MIS.
Evaluates each student’s individual growth and performance, assessing with appropriate measures, including performance assessments, process assessments, narratives, and rubrics.
Offers German office hours to provide additional student support.
Maintains a safe, secure, interactive, respectful, and healthy educational environment; follows, establishes, and enforces school standards and procedures and complies with legal requirements.
Interacts positively with parents, students, other faculty, resource staff, and partners in education while establishing consistent and ongoing communication processes.
Maintains a growth mindset and demonstrates the value of lifelong learning by reading professional publications and engaging in continuing and professional educational experiences.
Participates in staff development, in-service activities and staff meetings including meetings with the foreign language team lead.
