The Fletcher School is seeking applicants for a Physical Education Teacher/Coach. Our Athletics Department emphasizes respect, team spirit, sportsmanship, fair play, adherence to rules and building practical skills and physical fitness through exercise and challenging activities. Athletic sport teams include soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketball, golf, tennis, flag football and ultimate Frisbee. This position will co-teach Physical Education classes for grades K-5 and provide supervision and coaching for student athletes in grades 6-12 after school. Hours are 12:30 - 6:30, plus coaching duties for one to two athletic teams per season. Hours may vary during coaching due to game schedules and travel. This is a 10 month position that accrues benefits.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Actively supports the mission of The Fletcher School in the execution of the role and responsibilities.
Plans, prepares and delivers lesson plans that are structured, multi-sensory and considerate of individual learning styles in order to facilitate active learning in a group setting and assist students in achieving their potential.
Ensures that curriculum, lesson plans and evaluations are in accordance with established school procedures and pedagogy.
Manages student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the disciplinary systems of the School.
Provides appropriate feedback and encouragement to students.
Monitors the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
Coaches one to two athletic teams each of the three seasons.
Creates practice and game day plans in advance.
Maintains responsibility for the development and improvement of players as individuals and as a team.
Facilitates effective, consistent and timely communication with parents.
Supervises students until picked up by parents.
Assist with management of uniforms, team equipment and transportation to and from games.
Perform related duties as requested by the Athletic Director.
BA/BS degree in Physical Education or a related field and one to three years of experience teaching and/or coaching.
A positive, upbeat coaching style.
Strong communication skills with a focus on sportsmanship and teamwork.
After school availability from 5:30pm-7pm for practices and games from mid-August through late May. Some evenings may be later due to travel for away games.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
A criminal history background check is required of all employees.
