Headwaters School, a Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school serving 540 students across its three campuses in Austin, TX, is seeking a Long-Term Middle School Science Substitute Teacher for the 2018 Fall Semester. The position will run early September - December, 2018.
At Headwaters, our esteemed Faculty are responsible for fostering a positive environment of learning that responds to the particular needs of each child and classroom environment; helping each student to develop identity formation, to live authentically, to think expansively and to create bravely. Our ideal candidate will have experience teaching Middle School science curriculum including Life Science and Environmental Science courses.
About this Position:
Long-term Substitute Teachers are responsible for providing and implementing the daily lesson plans according to the School's requirements. In addition, they are charged with managing the classroom environment, providing activities, materials, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
Bachelor's Degree required, degree in Science preferred
Prior experience teaching in a Middle/High School, required
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to follow oral and written directions
Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
Services are generally provided within a standard classroom environment. Some movement throughout the classroom is generally necessary to facilitate learning (e.g., standing, walking, stooping, bending, sitting, and/or kneeling). Light lifting of materials and other objects associated within a classroom environment is required (e.g., books, teaching aids, up to approximately 20 to 40 lbs.). The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
