Title: Middle School Language Arts and Homeroom Teacher
Scope: Part-time (based on a 33.5 hour week), 25 hours/week, includes full benefits
Sussex School, a progressive, award-winning, K-8 day school with small class sizes located in Missoula, Montana, seeks a sixth through eighth-grade language arts and middle school homeroom teacher. The middle school program at Sussex School offers an enriching educational atmosphere. Faculty and staff are highly engaged and are passionate about progressive education. “Thinking uncommonly and acting exceptionally” is a shared ethos of middle school students and staff.
The Sussex School language arts teacher seeks out opportunities for team teaching, models a love of learning, sparks students’ enthusiasm, and demonstrates flexibility. Also, s/he serves as a homeroom advisor for a middle school class. Homeroom responsibilities include leading class field trips, organizing service learning events, and facilitating other school-related expeditions, including a week-long outdoor educational field trip in the spring.
A degree with a specialization related to language arts; while a teaching degree or certification is preferred, alternative pathways to teaching are welcomed.
Experience teaching middle school students.
Strong skills and experience in teaching writing and literary analysis.
Familiarity with young adult literature.
Passion for student-centered, differentiated instruction.
Commitment to progressive teaching/learning.
An ability to work closely and communicate effectively with all Sussex School community stakeholders.
