The Army and Navy Academy (the “Academy”) is a military boarding school for young men, grades 7-12. It is one of just a handful of all-boys military schools in the United States, and it enjoys a 106-year rich history of educating, mentoring, and developing good character and leadership in young men. In addition to high standards of academic, athletic and military leadership programs, the Academy builds virtuous young men. Our leadership training is grounded in moral values to produce men who not only do well but live well. We are not the outdated, popular culture version of a military boarding school. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) reports directly to the President, Major General Arthur Bartell. The COO is the key day-to-day liaison between the President and Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Advancement. The COO is responsible for the planning and day-to-day supervision of all Academy operational functions, including Facilities, Information Technology, Food Services and Cadet Store. The COO also interfaces with the Dean of Academics, Cadet Life Commandant, and Athletics Director. The COO leads special project work and works closely with the President on a wide variety of administrative and executive duties and initiatives involving the President’s office and its priorities. The COO, with the support of the Executive Assistant, coordinates the execution of Academy-wide projects undertaken by the President – including campus beautification and construction – and handles questions, concerns, issues and requests on the President’s behalf.
Education & Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in related field (MBA preferred).
Proven track record planning, leading and managing staff to work collaboratively and achieve individual, team and organizational goals.
Minimum 10 years of progressively increasing operational, financial, administrative, and strategic planning experience preferably from private education; however, possibly from a transferrable role in the non-profit or for-profit sector.
Familiarity with the nuances and specifics of multi-year construction projects.
Strong analytical and data-driven mindset that translates into successful leadership and improved results.
Excellent demonstrated judgment and diplomacy in working with diverse groups to address complex issues.
Ability to inspire employees to perform up to their potential and optimize their productivity.
