Position Summary: The Director of Athletics assumes overall responsibility for a 5-12 girls-first athletic program. This position reports to the Director of 5-12 (Principal). The successful candidate will coordinate and manage the development of athletic policies, regulations, program guidelines, budget and procedures pertaining to implementation and evaluation of a 5-12 interscholastic athletic program in an independent, girls, Catholic School. The Athletic Director is expected to personally model and assist girls with developing a positive relationship with fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, honesty, respect for authority, building of community, self-image, and care/concern for others. The unique understanding of coaching girls is non-negotiable; a sense of humor is required.
Ensures that the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education and the school’s mission of educating girls provide the philosophical underpinnings for all athletic program offerings.
Serves as the administrative face of Forest Ridge as regards presence at athletic competitions, mediation of student athlete and coaching concern, representation at league meetings, and coordination of community partnerships.
Designs, implements and assumes responsibility for all athletic programmatic offerings.
Hires, orients, develops and evaluates coaching and program staff throughout the year.
Manages critical student information related to individual physical wellness, league regulations and academic eligibility.
Orchestrates logistics related to scheduling, transportation, uniforms, equipment inventories, facilities and referees
Provides strategic leadership for continuous improvement of athletic program
Required Education & Experience: The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant teaching and coaching experience in an educational setting. A Master’s Degree in a related area and a teaching credential are preferred. Suggested knowledge, skills and abilities include:
Current knowledge of best practices in this arena
Experience teaching/coaching adolescent or pre-adolescent girls
Proven leadership track record for vision, team building, judgment and creativity
Current certification in CPR and First Aid
Willingness to work some evenings and weekends as determined by the school schedule
