The Preschool and Lower School Spanish teacher will teach students in Readiness, PreK, Kindergarten, and First Grade. River Oaks Baptist School focuses its curriculum on the integration of the 6 C’s: character, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and cross-cultural competency. All classrooms in Lower School are equipped with Promethean boards. Kindergarten through third grade students have access to iPads; fourth graders have access to iPads and tablet PCs.
The Spanish teacher is a collaborative member of the Spanish Department and Special Area Team which plans and works closely together. The Special Area Team includes art, Bible, computer, library, music, and Spanish. The Spanish teacher is supported by a curriculum coordinator, the Lower School Counselor, the Lower School Learning Specialist, and the Assistant and Division Heads of Lower School.
The Spanish teacher must be a fluent Spanish speaker and have knowledge of language acquisition specifically in early childhood education. In addition, a successful candidate will:
Have familiarity with the ACTFL standards for Spanish and Can-Do Statements for language learning
Utilize strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the department, students, and parent community in both English and Spanish
Develop and implement creative learning plans that fulfill the requirements of ROBS curriculum and show written evidence of preparation as required
Create lessons that are student-centered
Demonstrate progressive and traditional pedagogies
Implement innovative technology to support the curriculum
Dedicated to the character development of the student
Demonstrate a desire for ongoing professional growth
Display ongoing cultural competencies in classroom instruction
Evaluate and maintain progress reports for individual student achievement
