The ideal candidate--a lover of literature and history, a close and careful reader, and a dynamic presence in the classroom--is skilled at engaging middle school students in text study, fostering rich conversation, and motivating students as readers and writers. The candidate shouldalso have experience as a teacher of writing who has generated varied writing assignments that foster creative and analytical thinking. A BA in English, history, or a closely related field is preferable.
