Riverdale Country School is a pre-kindergarten through grade 12 independent school in New York City committed to empowering lifelong learners by developing minds, building character, and creating community in order to change our world for the good. The school spans two separate campuses that comprise 27.5 acres in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
The Learning Specialists at Riverdale currently provide reading and writing intervention for grades K-5. They are members of the Lower School's Learning Research Team that engages in frequent collaboration related to planning, instruction, and assessment directly connected to student learning. Learning Specialists are proficient in administering and interpreting a variety of assessments. In addition, the Learning Specialist works closely with administration, faculty, parents, and service providers outside of the school. Overall, faculty members are expected to engage in all aspects of work with an open mind, a positive disposition, and a willingness to support the greater community.
Riverdale seeks candidates who are committed to work in the areas of equity, justice, and inclusion. A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required for the position. Preference is given to those with a master's degree in literacy, remedial reading, or a related field of study and those with teaching experience as a reading specialist. Training in and experience implementing a multisensory phonics program (such as Orton-Gillingham) is required. Training in the Hochman Method is preferred.
