Indian Creek School (ICS) is a co-educational, nonsectarian day school for 556 students age three through grade 12, currently situated on two campuses near Annapolis, Maryland. Founded in 1973, the school is distinguished by a passionate relationship with its community, its welcoming atmosphere, neuroscience-based approach to education, rich co-curricular program, and individualized teaching. ICS intentionally develops both academic and noncognitive skills in its students, in an effort to give them a full educational experience preparing them to approach the world with confidence, curiosity, and strength of character.
Indian Creek School – a lively, diverse community brimming with innovative teachers, engaged parents, and happy students – began more than 50 years ago as an intimate, student-centered PreK-8 school under the leadership of co-founder, Anne Coleman Chambers. In 2006, the school expanded to include an Upper School on a wooded, 114-acre site five miles south of the original location.
Today, ICS is a leader in teaching and learning, applying the latest insights from brain research and developmental psychology to offer a more effective, meaningful, and complete education that is both challenging and nurturing for every student. The school is a special place that is passionately committed to ensuring students have access to a breadth of challenging educational and developmental opportunities that will help them achieve long-term success and happiness.
Following the successful, seven-year tenure of Rick Branson, Ed.D., during which ICS has improved its campus, curriculum, sense of community, and plans for the future; the next Head will take the helm at a pivotal moment in the relatively young school’s history as it completes its move to a single campus location. ICS requires an innovative, energetic, confident leader who can unite and inspire the school’s constituents as it pursues its goal of “One School. One Community. One Campus.”
