Summary: Pacific Ridge School seeks candidates for the position of Student Support Specialist. This appointment will be effective August 8, 2018. Under the direction of the Director of Learning Center, the Student Support Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting the academic needs of students. Ability to communicate well with administrators, faculty, parents, and students is essential. Close collaboration with the Student Support Specialist, Director of Learning Center, Dean of Studies and Student Life, Division Heads, and School Nurse is expected. The Student Support Specialist will take an active role in determining whether a student needs additional academic support, including educational testing and/or school accommodations. The Student Support Specialist will also take on other roles or responsibilities in the realm of school life (based upon interest, experience, and need).
Role and Responsibilities
Support academic as well as social and emotional needs of students through individual and group sessions
Be available to teachers, parents, and administration to offer strategies and skill-building to support the academic, social, and emotional needs of students
Collaborate on the development of school-based accommodation plans for students
Collaborate with Student Support Team to refer students for further evaluation from outside providers
Assist in communicating accommodations and specific needs of students with parents, teachers, and administration
Meet weekly with Director of Learning Center, Dean of Studies and Student Life, and Student Support Specialist on the Student Support Team as well as work closely with these individuals on student support matters
Communicate directly with parents to assist with outside-of-school student support
Provide academic support services after school in the Learning Center
Review and assist students, teachers, parents, and administration in the understanding and implementation of psycho-educational assessment reports
Attend and facilitate meetings related to individual support
Help coordinate requests for evaluation, transference of ISP/IEP, review of accommodations, and consultation of meetings, as necessary
Work with Carlsbad Unified School District personnel to coordinate requests for evaluation, transference of ISP/IEP’s, annual review of accommodations, and consultation meetings, as necessary
Work with Learning Specialist to maintain tracking system for students with School Accommodation Plans that informs teachers each year of which students require accommodations and what the accommodations are
Assist with coordination of Advanced Placement testing
Assist with compiling documentation and apply for extended time for students through the College board and ACT
Qualifications and Education Requirements (including licenses or certifications)
Master’s degree or above in School or Educational Psychology, Social Work, School Counseling, or Licensed Professional Counselor; Pupil Personnel Services Credential or licensing preferred
Candidates should have working knowledge of learning disabilities
Experience in independent schools is a plus
