St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, a vibrant and diverse PK3-12 independent school in Mississippi's capital city with a nationally recognized global studies program, invites applications for an Upper School Spanish opening in our Department of World and Classical Languages.
More specifically, the school seeks a professional language educator who is a self-driven, team-oriented, life-long learner and who will contribute positively to the life of the school in various ways. While the ideal candidate will offer expertise and teaching capabilities in multiple languages, expertise teaching Spanish is required and the principal focus of this position. Strong candidates will be passionate about teaching, called to working with young people, and technologically savvy. They will have mastery of contemporary language pedagogies. They also will be able to meet the varied needs of our diverse student body, to teach different levels, to bring languages to life, and to inspire students to learn more about the culture, history, and richness of our multilingual world.
Exhibiting flexibility, patience, enthusiasm, a growth mindset, and a good sense of humor, strong candidates will embrace the mission of the school, collaborate liberally across departments and divisions, and communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents. Recognizing the importance of student-centered, differentiated instruction and experiential learning, they also will actively participate in the continuing development of a language curriculum and language-based, service-learning programs -- locally and globally -- that prepare students to be critical, independent thinkers and servant leaders who are able to function in an increasingly dynamic, diverse, and interconnected world.
For this position, the ideal candidate should have at least a Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Spanish or Spanish language instruction, and with a Master’s degree strongly preferred), teaching experience (ideally, with students of a comparable age), applicable international experiences and/or a thirst for travel, and an infectious curiosity about our world -- its peoples, languages, and cultures.
The Upper School is housed on the school's North Campus in Ridgeland. The division is home to approximately 350 students and 30 faculty and features an array of strong programs -- academic, athletic, and artistic -- along with a firm commitment to service and an advisory program that matches small groups of students with faculty members.
This is a full-time position scheduled to begin in August 2018. As an Equal Opportunity Employer and institution explicitly committed to nurturing a diverse community, St. Andrew’s does not discriminate in violation of the law on the basis of the protected categories of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender, and sexual orientation), age, disability, genetic information, or military/veteran status in its employment practices or hiring practices.
