The Associate Director of Admissions oversees all aspects of recruitment and admission of new students. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Admissions and Enrollment. The Associate Director of Admissions maintains contact with “feeder” schools’ administrators and teachers, attends parent information nights, conducts interviews, organizes the open house, and oversees the entrance exam and academic placement exams.
Responsibilities of the Associate Director of Admissions include:
Plan for the recruitment year and marketing strategy for admissions with the communications manager.
Oversee the content of the recruitment materials, and maintain an inventory of admissions materials required.
Organize visits, talks, and information presentations at primary feeder schools and other local middle schools.
Organize student “shadow visits,” arranging for student guides for the day, drop-off (7:30am) and pick-up of the student visitors.
Plan and administer the school Open House.
Organize, administer, and score the Scholarship and Entrance Exam.
Maintain and manage all correspondence with prospective families and students.
Make major admissions decisions with the Admissions Committee.
Review applications for new students and recommend admission decisions.
Manage the activities of the Assistant to Admissions and Admissions Coordinator, and create the admissions budget
Present admission information to administration, board, and faculty at appropriate meetings.
Manage Auk-Ambassadors, our student club of tour guides
Organize student involvement in admission processes through such things as the phone-a-thon, high school nights, and the open house.
Have current knowledge about the Academy and its academic, athletic, and social programs or make references to someone who can answer the questions more precisely.
Organize and conduct the freshmen orientation night, 7th Grade Open Houses, Scholars’ Dinner, Placement Exams, and other Admissions events.
Consult department chairs for changes to curriculum and to provide testing information for course placement purposes.
Work with Director of Finance regarding applications for financial assistance information for incoming students.
Facilitate the awarding of scholarships and grant awards by the Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee (Headmaster, Principal, Director of Finance, Director of Admissions and Enrollment, and Associate Director of Admissions).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong fluency in technology, including data bases, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing software.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Able to create and follow calendars and processes.
Affinity and knowledge of education, pedagogy, and student culture.
