Cheshire Academy seeks an experienced, collaborative, and energetic teacher to join the English Department for the upcoming 2018-19 academic year. Cheshire Academy is a dynamic work environment. The school values flexibility and support from its teachers. An ability to differentiate instruction and work with students with various learning strengths is key. Our academic vision focuses on students becoming increasingly independent at observing, explaining, interpreting, analyzing, and reflecting on the world around them.
Candidates must have a strong academic and/or professional teaching background in English and/or ELL. The Academy’s diverse student body has a large percentage of international students for whom English is not their native language, so candidates who have experience and/or expertise working with language learners, and/or who are TESOL certified or equivalent, are strongly preferred.
Ideal candidates will also have experience or familiarity with the International Baccalaureate Program (IB), as nearly all Cheshire Academy students take an IB course during their Junior and Senior years, and the IB’s pedagogical philosophy forms the backbone of our teaching across all grade levels.
This position is available for day-faculty only. We are unable to offer on-campus housing in this academic year.
Other responsibilities include:
Coaching and/or leading extra-curricular activities;
Weekend team responsibilities;
Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain an CT “A” endorsement for purposes of transporting students.
Bachelor's Degree in English or related field. Master's Degree preferred.
Teaching background in English and/or ELL/ESL.
TESOL certified or equivalent strongly preferred.
Experience and/or familiarity with IB teaching is strongly preferred.
Candidate must be able to pass a criminal background check.
