The Office of Admission at Bard Academy and Bard College at Simon’s Rock seeks a conscientious and creative professional to identify and recruit bright, highly motivated, and passionate students.
For 50 years, Simon's Rock has occupied a unique space in the educational landscape, practicing the simple yet radical idea that many students are ready for college at a younger age. Simon’s Rock is the only institution of higher learning to offer students the opportunity to complete high school and college in six years instead of the traditional eight. Students may enter Bard Academy for 9th and 10th grade and then matriculate into the College, or apply to enroll in the College after completing the tenth or eleventh grade at any high school. Bard College at Simon’s Rock offers the Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree, and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. The campus is located in Great Barrington in the heart of the Berkshires of Massachusetts.
Responsibilities of the admission counselor include participation in a full range of admission activities including representing the College and the Academy to a variety of outside constituencies, prospect management, developing and implementing recruitment strategy, interviewing applicants and working with families, reviewing applications, and working closely with Simon’s Rock students, staff, and faculty. The main duties for the international position involve international recruitment, 10-12 weeks of travel spread over the recruitment cycle to territories abroad that align with the goals of internationalizing the institution, working with current international students on recruitment efforts, attending relevant professional development conferences and webinars, working with campus partners and outside constituents to support strategic priorities, processing and issuing I-20s to incoming students, and supporting the efforts of the International Student Support team.
The successful candidate must be energetic, creative, organized, flexible, and open-minded, must demonstrate independent initiative and also work very well as part of a team, and must possess outstanding strategic thinking, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. Candidates must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and be willing to travel. Bachelor's degree, valid passport, and driver’s license required. Admission and recruiting experience in a liberal arts college or independent secondary school environment strongly desired. Candidates with at least 1-2 years international or domestic recruitment experience in secondary or higher education will be given preference.
Bard College at Simon’s Rock is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply. Please send resume and cover letter to Kirin Terni, Associate Director of Admission, by email with “admission counselor” in the subject line (email@example.com). Please specify region preference in the cover letter and include which admission responsibilities are of most interest. No phone calls, please. Position open until filled.
About Bard Academy
Bard Academy students are a diverse bunch, but have a few things in common: intellectual curiosity, an independent spirit, and a love of learning. We haven't condensed the high school experience; instead, we've created a program that takes a collegiate approach to learning from day one. After the 10th grade, all students in good academic and social standing are admitted to Bard College at Simon's Rock.
