The Director of Human Resources provides leadership and oversight with respect to personnel management, recruiting, compensation and benefits administration, performance management, professional development, and employee relations and communications. The Director of Human Resources works collaboratively with school administrators, department heads, faculty and staff to develop and implement objectives that will provide an employee-oriented culture.
Ensures regulatory compliance with Federal, State, and Local agencies for employee relations, recruitment activities and benefits.
Consults with legal counsel and insurance brokers as appropriate, or as directed by the Head of School, on personnel matters.
Annually reviews and makes recommendations to the Head of School for improvement of the School’s policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters.
Coordinates, updates and disseminates Employee Handbook information. Updates the Employee Handbook annually.
Communicates changes in school personnel policies and procedures and ensures proper compliance is followed.
Coordinates and conducts the onboarding and offboarding of employees.
Coordinates staff development for the School.
Oversees and coordinates the New Staff program.
Maintains the human resource information system for employees.
Participates in external surveys in all areas of Human Resources, including Cal-ISBOA, NAIS, and any other school related data collection services. Provides benchmarking data on positions at the school.
Coordinates leave of absence from work in conjunction with the Business Office.
Handles job posting for open positions in the school.
Manages on-line reference verifications and other candidate reference follow-ups.
Coordinates candidate’s information during the hiring process to provide access to resumes and schedules.
Coordinates with the Director of Recruitment on the faculty hiring process.
Oversees the staff hiring process in conjunction with the appropriate department heads.
Consults with legal counsel and insurance brokers as appropriate, or as directed by the Head of School, on employee relation matters.
Assists in managing employee relations issues.
Provides consultancy advice to division directors and department heads on personnel matters.
At the direction of the Head of School, the Director of Human Resources takes the lead or provides support, including recommendations, on employee relations investigations involving employees.
Assists employees with benefits resolutions regarding claims or coverage.
Reconciles benefit premiums, run reports, monitors coverage, audits premium invoices and coordinates with the Business Office.
Coordinates with the insurance broker on open enrollment and renewals of employee benefits.
Communicates benefit programs and delivers information and materials to employees, including benefit renewals and distribution of open enrollment packages.
Collects and maintains benefit related historical documents.
Coordinates disability and unemployment procedures; manages employee leaves and worker’s compensation claims.
Required – Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of direct experience in the field of Human Resources management. Non-profit experience preferred.
Experience with payroll and HRIS systems.
Excellent organization, time management, and analytic skills.
Ability to be self-directed, handle multiple tasks and priorities, solve problems and demonstrate leadership skills within a team environment
Outstanding oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to use discretion with confidential information
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Office; willingness to learn new systems and techniques
Proven ability to work as a positive, enthusiastic member of a team
