Chapin School, a coeducational three-year-old through eighth grade independent school located in Princeton, NJ, seeks an energetic, caring, and collaborative full-time preschool teacher to join our preschool teaching team. Chapin School values the role all teachers have in achieving the school’s mission to provide a richly-textured education that inspires academic achievement and builds strength of character. Chapin is committed to each child’s academic, emotional, ethical, creative and social development through inquiry-based, experiential learning activities that fully engage our students in the collaborative learning process.
Chapin’s preschool program, called Explorers, welcomes three and four-year-old students into its full-day program. Explorers is an inquiry-based, Reggio-inspired program that nurtures the natural curiosity of our youngest learners. Students spend at least two hours or more a day outside exploring and learning in the garden, in our outdoor classroom, or around the school grounds. Outdoor learning is balanced with hands-on STEAM experiences, early literacy and numeracy units, as well as a rich array of co-curricular subjects. A successful teacher is excited to create projects that balance explicit learning with the questioning, energy, and curiosity of young children.
Candidates are able to:
Lead young children through hands-on experiences with humor and joy.
Value time outside and be willing to “get a little messy.”
Model developmentally-appropriate teaching practices.
Create appropriately challenging academic literacy, science, and math experiences for young learners.
Collaborate and be flexible with colleagues, families, and students.
Integrate technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Communicate with families about student progress, goals, and benchmarks respectfully and openly.
Be curious and listen with empathy to all members of the school community.
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity work with young children.
Knowledgeable of social-emotional learning philosophies that foster a strong, caring classroom community based on student engagement in learning and shared respect.
Bachelor’s degree required. Early childhood certification/specialization and Master’s degree preferred. To apply, please visit chapinschool.org to electronically submit a cover letter, resume, and statement of philosophy to email@example.com. Communication should be addressed to Barbara Pasteris, Head of School. No telephone inquiries please.
