Established in 1920, Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland and Lafayette. Bentley School seeks an Upper School Learning Support Specialist at the 9-12 campus in Lafayette.
Responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to:
Assist individuals and small groups of students in implementing accommodations described in individual learning plans, particularly with executive function support.
Serve as consulting support to faculty regarding learning differences and strategies to shore up strengths and to address weak areas with appropriate strategies, resources and accommodations.
Track students with identified learning/attention differences with support and guidance from the administration.
Maintain student data files, develop student learning profiles, and serve as liaison between families and outside providers.
Review caseload and communicate developments with students, families, faculty, and administration as requested and needed.
Ensure student access to needed national standardized testing accommodations and coordinate applications and schedule for the College Board (PSAT, SAT, AP) and ACT for students with accommodations.
Organize and lead student success team (SST) meetings.
Attend student/parent/faculty meetings as required.
Final exam planning, organization and management for students with accommodations.
Proctoring / arranging for proctors for quiet space to meet accommodations.
Research best practices to support students and educate teachers around diagnosed learning needs.
Collaborate with counseling team as needed.
Certification in Educational Therapy or M.A. with demonstrated experience tutoring adolescents with diagnosed learning and/or attention disabilities.
Experience assisting students with executive function challenges and supporting students in different subject areas (e.g. math, chemistry, history, world language).
Experience using neuropsychological evaluations, IEPs, and related educational assessment tools to assist with interpretation of scores, allocation of accommodations and resources, and to inform work with students, teachers and families.
Experience and interest in ongoing experimentation with a range of assistive technology tools that can help students manage learning and attention challenges.
Experience teaching or coaching larger groups of students, demonstrated support for teacher colleagues and proven ability to work well with a wide range of constituents (students, parents/guardians, teaching and administrative colleagues, outside tutors).
