Miss Porter’s School seeks an experienced adult to work and live in campus dormitory housing with female high school students. House Directors are responsible for monitoring the health and safety of students within the dormitory. A House Director must be able to enforce dorm rules and expectations in a consistent and respectful manner while establishing with the students a strong working relationship. An ideal House Director serves as an advocate for the students and holds them accountable for their decisions and their actions. Experience working with adolescents, ideally within a residential setting, is desirable. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to the developmental needs of adolescent girls.
Establish and maintain communication with students living in the dorm.
Maintain an ongoing communication with students’ parents/guardians.
Serve as a mediator/facilitator when necessary to provide resolutions for interpersonal conflicts between students.
Implement Residential Life curriculum within the dorm.
Hold students accountable to rules and expectations in accordance with the Student Handbook.
Ensure that students are following proper procedures by overseeing daily sign in and sign out system as well as study hall expectations and evening check-in procedures.
Attend all required meetings (Dean of Students, faculty, all-school meetings, professional development days on or off campus), including occasional daytime commitments.
Collaborate with faculty to best support the needs of the students.
Demonstrate a commitment to the supportive and developmental needs of adolescent girls.
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Previous work experience with adolescence
