AIM Academy is looking for an ambitious, creative, and innovative educator to help design and launch a novel foreign language program. We seek someone who is interested in combining the research regarding best practices for foreign language instruction with the research in best practices for teaching children with language-based learning differences. For the last seven years, AIM has exclusively offered Latin as our only for-credit foreign language. This year we launched our Center for Global Leadership and want to grow our offerings to now include Spanish. This position is a unique opportunity for an educator who wants to take a different approach to foreign language. The eventual program will integrate what we know about multi-sensory and structured language instruction from Orton-Gillingham research and will not be focused solely on the translation of text. Conversely, we are looking for our program to teach through storytelling, visualizing, conversation, and hands-on experiential approaches with auditory comprehension and oral expression as the primary goals.
The Upper School Humanities team is comprised of nine faculty who focus on Literature, Writing, History, Latin, and Intervention classes. This position falls within that department and is supported by a team of instructional leaders, speech language pathologists, and knowledgeable administrators. An ideal candidate will have experience teaching Spanish to students with unique learning profiles and will also understand how to marry explicit instruction with a college preparatory scope and sequence. Those with specific experience in learning differences are highly desirable. AIM’s Institute for Learning and Research will provide a myriad of opportunities for professional development prior to the opening of the school year. Our ideal candidate will be comfortable working with a collaborative team of innovative educators and will embody creativity and thoughtfulness in the way they approach teaching and learning.
