4 Year Degree
Glenelg Country School’s Humanities Department seeks a teacher of Modern World History, our core course for all twelfth grade students, for the 2018/2019 academic year. Qualified applicants will have at least three years of experience teaching at the Upper School level. The course begins with the post-World War II era, extends to the present day, and is an attempt to examine the end of the twentieth and beginning of the twenty-first centuries in a meaningful way. Students look at the centuries with a global perspective. Additionally, students are expected to engage with current events, ensuring that they are well informed when they go out into the world.
In the Upper School, emphasis is placed on the integrated nature of the humanistic disciplines. Students are given the opportunity to build a strong foundation in literature, literary analysis, and critical and historical thinking skills. Throughout their Upper School experience, students are asked to consider the nature of the sources from which historians work and to synthesize these sources through research.
