The Deputy Commandant (DC) is under the direct supervision of the Commandant of Cadets and focuses on the safety, security, health, welfare, discipline, mentoring and accountability of all R-MA Cadets. The DC has the critical responsibility of ensuring effective coordination of campus wide activities involving the Corps of Cadets. Assumes the role of Commandant in his absence.
The DC advises the Commandant of Cadets on all cadet-related activities, directs and conducts investigations concerning cadets, and makes recommendations. He/she must work well and develop a positive rapport with cadets, parents, guardians, faculty, staff, and community members who deal with R-MA in a wide variety of capacities.
The DC works with a wide variety of individuals and situations associated with day to day cadet life. The DC must be able to communicate complex ideas in written and oral communications; effectively serve on a wide variety of committees; and expertly apply the management functions of planning, organizing, directing, and controlling to common situations involving the Corps of Cadets and R-MA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The DC handles direct day-to-day Corps of Cadet operations which include, but are not limited to, cadet life, cadet leadership development, cadet physical readiness, discipline, and cadet accountability. The DC directly oversees day to day discipline of the Corps of Cadets, closely monitors cadets “at risk,” and recommends convening the Disciplinary Review Committee.

About Randolph-Macon Academy
Founded in 1892, Randolph-Macon Academy is a co-ed boarding and day school for approximately 400 students in grades 6-12. The foundational principles of the Academy are: Knowledge, Leadership, and Character. The Upper School is built on a military (AFJROTC) format; the Middle School is civilian. R-MA is focused on providing strenuous college-prep academics, a structured environment, strong athletics, and a full range of extracurricular activities.
