Charles Wright Academy is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts. Founded in 1957, the school enrolls 680 students in grades junior kindergarten through twelve. We are located in a suburban neighborhood southwest of Tacoma, approximately one mile from Puget Sound and within the shadow of Mt. Rainier.

Summary: The School Psychologist serves in a primary way as manager of social-emotional well-being of the entire CWA community ~ students and adults. This work is accomplished by interactions, support, teaching and counseling of students; and support, educating, and guiding the adult cultures of the school in concert with the student support team and Head of School.
Supporting students, as well as teaching faculty and families by:
Serving as a liaison between directors, parents, teachers learning support specialists and tutors to support students and their learning, including:
Coordinating and attending team meetings with families, directors, teachers, learning support staff, and when needed, outside providers and tutors
Attending lower and middle school grade level team meetings
Coordinating communication with families and teachers in support of students with special needs
Working closely with lower and middle school learning support specialists
Observing students of concern, providing recommendations for classroom and home implementation
Creating and overseeing implementation of Student Intervention Plans
Communicating with medical personnel and outside providers of evaluations to endure coordination of student support
Assisting directors and faculty in interpretation and implementation of appropriate recommendation from evaluations
Meeting with students individually to provide support
Providing training to faculty and staff as needed in faculty meetings
Suggesting and organizing faculty in-service trainings in coordination with directors
Working in concert with the directors, providing support by meeting individually with students experiencing social, emotional, academic, or behavioral challenges
Developing, supporting, and developing a social-emotional curriculum/program
Meeting with parents as needed, to provide support, education, and resources
Meeting with individual faculty members as needed, to provide support, education, and resources
Supporting admissions assessments
Serving on committees to address and develop safety procedures and practices
Providing crisis management and support of the school community as needed
Providing parent education and opportunities for dialogue within the CWA community
Informed by current needs, a responsive lens, and a proactive approach, educating all students through weekly and bi-weekly social, emotional, health and wellness programming.
Qualifications: Candidate’s experience should show evidence of successful early childhood teaching or counseling in either a public or independent school setting.
The candidate must have experience in dynamic, flexible pedagogical techniques. Familiarity with Google G-Site for education and Mac hardware/systems is preferred. A commitment to diversity and inclusion with a strong sense of cultural competency is desired. Essential elements for the position include the ability to inspire children, the capacity to work cooperatively with peers, and a joyful sense of humor.
