Cambridge Friends School is seeking applicants for a 60% FTE Middle School Spanish Teacher for the 2018-2019 academic year. The position start date is August 22, 2018 for new faculty orientation. This position is a 10-month position from September to June.

The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of traditional best practices, combined with student-centered methods such as project-based and inquiry-based learning approaches to instruction. Primary responsibilities will include teaching four sections of Spanish in grades 5,6,7, and 8. Additional responsibilities may include serving as an advisor or homeroom teacher, along with other middle school team responsibilities.
The successful candidate will have experience and interest in teaching with either OWL (Organic World Language) or storytelling (TPRS) to design engaging, student-centered content. Willingness to participate in the community beyond the classroom is essential, as is an eagerness to collaborate with Middle School department members to design innovative, cross-curricular programs. The position requires use of technology in foreign language and school-wide reporting. The ideal candidate will understand second language development and acquisition and have experience creating a developmentally appropriate language environment that leads to oral receptive and expressive Spanish language proficiency by eighth grade. Students should be prepared for a high school level Spanish II program upon completion of Middle School.
Candidates should possess the following skills:
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in education preferred
5 years' experience as a lead teacher preferred
Near-native fluency in Spanish
Proven cultural competence in a community committed to issues of social justice
Exceptional written and oral communication skills - relative to follow through, organization, collaboration, and partnership with parents
Knowledgeable and appreciative of the developmental needs of young adolescents
Ability to use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of all ability levels, with a particular focus on project-based curriculum
Commitment to collaborating and working as part of a larger Middle School team
Commitment to the creation and sustainability of an inclusive, anti-racist, anti-homophobic, and equitable learning environment for all students
