The Harley School seeks a full-time Middle School Learning Specialist for the fall of 2018. A master’s degree is preferred, with 3-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area, and certification in special education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Observe and evaluate individual students displaying academic or behavioral difficulties and assess their learning strengths and challenges.
Provide support services for students who are experiencing difficulties in core subject areas. Lead one-on-one or small group direct instruction.
Serve as a resource by providing teachers with effective strategies designed to meet the needs of students. Assist teachers with implementation of appropriate classroom accommodations/modifications to access curriculum. Provide information, consultation, and assistance to classroom teachers.
Communicate with teachers and other school staff regarding student progress. Initiate and schedule parent conferences as needed. Coordinate and facilitate communication among student, family, school, and other involved professionals.
Coordinate/assist in scheduling Middle School SSP services with: the Brighton School District, the Lower School and Upper School SSP staff, and division heads.
Join or lead parent conferences during which faculty and administrators provide progress reports or plan appropriate support interventions.
Prepare IEP or Harley Learning Plans (HLP) for eligible students. Play an active support role in CSE meetings.
Maintain record keeping on students served for program evaluation and effectiveness of Middle School SSP services provided.
Design a flexible schedule to maximize service.
Administer workshops for parents and teachers on issues and strategies related to learning difficulties.
Participate in committee, department, and staff meetings as well as school-sponsored events that would benefit from your areas of expertise.
Perform any other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
