Westover School seeks an experienced and empathetic mental health professional to serve as Director of Counseling and Student Support. This new position will lead a department that reports to the Dean of Students and works in close collaboration with the Director of Health Services and the Academic Dean to support students’ social-emotional well-being throughout the program. The Director of Counseling will be a visible and approachable figure connected across all areas of the School community in his or her work, promoting a culture of compassion and a sense of balance in the busy lives of Westover girls.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide individual counseling for students - both on a drop-in basis and as referred by faculty, staff or requested by the family
Oversee 1-2 on site counselors
Lead student support groups on areas of interest
Refer students to outside providers as necessary and maintain a wide range of professional contacts for referral purposes
Maintain close connections with the Director of Health Services, the Dean of Students, families, faculty, staff and outside treatment providers regarding student mental health concerns
Participate in weekly Student Assistance Team meetings with the Dean of Students, Director of Health Services, Academic Dean, Director of Residential Life and the School Psychologist/Learning Center Coordinator
Develop social-emotional support plans for students requiring regular counseling services
Serve on crisis management team as the voice of student and faculty mental health and facilitate crisis response in urgent student mental health situations
Collaborate with the Director of Health Services and the Dean of Students on a health and wellness curriculum for all students - some teaching duties required
Provide professional development opportunities for faculty, staff and parents on girls’ social-emotional well-being and be up to date on trends and developments in the field
Attend occasional meetings of dorm staff to provide education and support around relevant issues
Collaborate with the Academic Dean on programming around the advising system
Maintain records on all student counseling sessions
Maintain statistics on counseling center student usage
Collaborate with Director of Health Services and other members of the Health Services team in the development of policies and protocols

The successful candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of experience working in an educational setting and a graduate degree in psychology, counseling or a related field
Demonstrated ability to successfully build teams and manage and execute projects
Strong communication and facilitation skills
Demonstrated ability to manage time and work independently, balancing multiple demands
