Maret School, an independent day school of 650 students in grades K-12, is seeking a Director of After School Program. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and managerial experience. The After School Director will report to the Director of Lower School and be expected to embrace the School's Mission and commitment to Equity and Inclusion.
The After School Program serves students in grades K-8 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. every day except Wednesday, when the hours are 1:15 – 6:00 p.m. The mission of the program is to provide a safe environment in which Lower School students play in a neighborhood-like setting, enjoy snacks and activities, and work on school assignments. An added element to the program for Middle School students is the focus on individual responsibility within a guided environment.
The After School Director manages the day-to-day operations of this program, where the following logistics are integral to and play an important part in the success of the program. All are under the responsibility of the Director:
Managing the After School budget (You will meet with the Business Office quarterly to look at the overall health of the After School Program)
Hiring staff (in partnership with LS/MS Division Directors specific to their divisions)
Keeping track of the hours counselors work and communicating that information to the Business Office (counselors hours are from 2:30-6:00pm unless they are working on an evening event which may go later or other special circumstances like staff training, set up of projects, etc....)
Managing contracts signed by families who are active in the After School Program and billing drop-in participants. This includes monitoring the total number of children in the program and notifying parents when space is not available.
Keeping track of all Lower and Middle School students on campus after school hours.
Organizing and running Gap Camp on school holidays (when parents are usually not able to leave work) and the week of meetings at the beginning and end of the school year. (Alternative days can be taken off to compensate for the gap camp days. These must be pre-arranged with your supervisor's approval with advanced warning.)
Organizing child care for evening events throughout the school year (Expectation is that you are here to oversee the majority of these evening events)
Searching for and hiring vendors outside of Maret to provide a rich selection of clubs for the fall, winter, and spring seasons
Working with any Lower or Middle School group renting space on campus to be sure you know who the students involved are and where the event takes place
Fostering the partnership between home and school
Keeping open communications between teachers and After School counselors
Ordering and coordinating daily snack selection and supplies for the Program
Being on campus from 10:15am until 6:15pm (or until the last child is picked up). You will be asked to cover LS Lunch and MS Lunch/Recess Duty daily.
Formal evaluations of counselors will be conducted twice a year
Staff training will be created and administered by the Director and will occur prior to the start of the program and should be coordinated with the Lower and Middle School division directors. (Staff Training should be ongoing and should support the mission and values of the school. Written expectations for the counselors should be established and enforced throughout the school year. LS/MS Handbooks should be used as a point of reference for setting these expectations.)
Formal written communication with families must be approved by your direct supervisor (i.e., letters home to all After School Program families, letters to special club participants, etc...) (Email distribution lists must be established for after school participants and special club participants).
