The Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations is responsible for developing, managing and executing Marburn Academy’s Annual Fund and Alumni programs. Relationship-building is critical in this position and the individual will work primarily with constituencies of parents, grandparents, alumni parents, alumni and friends to advance the School. The successful candidate will be a fundraising generalist with experience in all facets of the field including individual giving, events, corporate engagement and foundation support and he/she must embrace and deploy proven development principles and practices. The ideal candidate will be a highly effective, driven and goal-oriented self-starter who embraces a high-paced work environment, is able to manage multiple projects, programs and initiatives, independently prioritize workflow and consistently deliver the highest standard of work.
Responsibilities include the following:
Cultivate, solicit and steward individual donors focusing on student scholarships and funding for community-wide outreach programming;
Develop and manage giving circles and donor listings;
Collaborate on creative direction and messaging; work in tandem with the CAO and Director of Marketing & Communications on compelling content and storytelling for Annual Report, appeals and other collateral;
In collaboration with the CAO and Director of Marketing and Communications, develop and execute direct mail, email and social media campaigns using metrics and segmentation, and coordinate the Board and executive staff’s involvement in donor stewardship;
Create, launch and manage the faculty and staff campaign aiming to cultivate a culture of philanthropy and achieve 100% participation;
Direct and oversee donor-centered events including Grand Friends Day and donor receptions, assist with other outreach events as needed and manage events through online giving/bidding software;
Partner with the IA team on the annual Gala fundraiser: attend committee meetings, develop an alumni/alumni parent strategy, oversee faculty, staff and parent volunteer involvement, assist with sponsorship and auction solicitations;
Develop and write foundation proposals and budgets, lead monthly internal meeting, oversee compliance and reporting;
Oversee volunteer / associate engagement strategies with corporate partners
Act as staff liaison for MPTO and the School and ensure school-wide fundraising is fully integrated with Advancement’s goals;
Partner with Director of Marketing & Communications on fundraising positioning and verbiage on the website, including developing a case for support, overseeing online giving portal;
Responsible for writing and entering donor contact reports, with a disciplined and methodical approach in maintaining complete and accurate donor records; and
Work with donor services on data integrity, reporting, database maintenance, input, clean-up and development processes and procedures.
Create a new affinity program to engage, track and celebrate Marburn’s alumni;
Develop, manage and execute alumni events;
Develop and launch receptacle for collection of alumni contact info and news and actively promote to faculty and network of educators who may connect with alumni;
Work with team to update alumni information in database;
Collaborate with Marburn’s College Counselor on tracking successes and gleaning information from the Alumni National Clearinghouse reports;
Develop an alumni giving and current student philanthropy program.
Qualifications & Skills
Alignment with Marburn’s mission and core values;
A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred;
5 years+ of proven experience in development and/or alumni relations at a non-profit institution. Experience with an educational institution (K-12, higher ed) is a plus;
Proven track record of cultivating, engaging, and expanding donor relationships with a wide variety of donors; creating and driving development plans and closing gifts of all sizes;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Exhibits creative and fresh approaches to tried and true fundraising practices and out of the box thinking. Must also be detail oriented and disciplined in tracking and processing information;
Ability to effectively use a variety of programs and software, including a donor database (Senior Systems) online giving, and auction bidding platforms (Greater Giving/BidPal). Familiarity with Apple/Mac systems a plus;
Experience working with and connecting to a large and diverse community of people. Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal skills and collaboration and a true “people person”;
Ability to represent a department and motivate and collaborate with people while also acting as a professional mentor to build on the skill and strengths of others;
AFP membership and CFRE credentials a plus.

Normal business hours in New Albany: 7:40 AM – 4:30 PM, M-F; and occasional nights/weekends;
Occasional travel required.
