Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy is currently seeking an interim Director of Residential Life for the 2018-2019 school year. The Residential Life program provides boarders with the support, guidance and supervision they need to thrive so that they learn about themselves, their relationship to others and their responsibilities as member of the FSHA community. The interim Director of Residential Life (DRL) is responsible for all elements of the residential life curriculum and the staff members who administer that curriculum. The DRL reports to the President and serves on the school’s leadership team.
Major Duties: RESIDENTIAL LIFE PROGRAM
Demonstrates a commitment to the school’s mission of a Catholic, Dominican education and skillfully integrate this into the Residential Life program.
Provides leadership and initiative in planning, coordinating and implementing the goals of the residential life program, including development of student activities program, with a particular focus on the weekend activities and events.
Establishes and administers polices that govern residential life thus ensuring the most positive experience for each girl.
Manages interface between academics, athletics, co-curriculum and residential life programs so as to ensure the complementary operation of their respective offerings that proactively encourages day student involvement.
Must be regularly accessible to students when on campus, willing to share personal space, engage in conversations important to the student, and create a homelike environment.
Coordinates the selection, training and performance of student Boarding Council.
STAFF SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT
Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates all staff members of the department.
Stays at the forefront of independent boarding schools by reviewing best practices, following current research and contributing to the larger professional community.
ADMINISTRATION AND OTHER
Teaches one class at the high school.
Advises a group of students (day and boarding).
In coordination with the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management and the Director of Marketing, strategizes the marketing of the boarding program and recruitment of boarding candidates; (including international travel); Serves on the Boarding Admissions Committee.
Oversees and manages the budget for the program.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate educational field is required; a Master’s Degree is preferred.
At least 4 years of boarding school experience.
A demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative management context.
Prior experience with international students and their families.
A passion for independent girls’ education as well as the professionalism, energy, and commitment necessary to achieve the responsibilities of this position.
A focus and interest on the crucial boarding school experiences that take place outside the classroom.

ORGANIZATION – Must possess ability to multitask, attend to detail, organize work effectively, meet deadlines and report status of work in a regular and systematic fashion; strong project management skills are essential.
COMMUNICATION/INTERPERSONAL – must have strong verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation skills and ability to develop and present executive presentations.
PEOPLE SKILLS – Must be customer service oriented and seek to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with employees, parents and other Academy constituencies encountered. Must also have a high level of emotional maturity and ability to work with others in a collaborative fashion.
PROBLEM SOLVING & ANALYSIS – Strong ability to identify problems, conduct appropriate analysis and reach effective solutions commensurate with level of responsibility.
INITIATIVE – Must possess the ability to proactively initiate, participate and follow through in strategic planning matters and on work assigned. Positive attitude and teamwork perspective is essential.
Specific Instructions: This is a full-time position, beginning 8/1/2018, which requires that the candidate live on-campus in faculty housing. Given the nature of the position at an all-girls residence hall, only female candidates will be considered for this position. Duties include weekday evenings as well as weekends, which require availability Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Duties and responsibilities may be modified from time to time and additional duties may be assigned.
