Gill St. Bernard’s School, an independent, nonsectarian, college preparatory day school for students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, located at an intersection of Somerset and Morris counties in Gladstone, New Jersey announces an opening for a full-time Learning Specialist for beginning August 1, 2018.
The Learning Specialist responds to the diverse needs of our student population, provides support and training to classroom teachers regarding individual students’ needs, provides first-level diagnostic support, works with individual students or groups of students, consults on individual teacher classroom issues, and suggests general instructional strategies to meet the needs of the children.
The Learning Specialist will:
Participate in Admissions Committee meetings to review the needs of applicants.
Disseminate information to faculty about individual students and his or her Learning Differences.
Participate in determining referral needs and processes for individual students
Provide community resource solutions to parents
Receive and interpret copies of students’ psycho-educational testing reports from outside professionals and students’ parents
Assist the Division Directors in coordination of special testing needs for in-school exams.
Assist the College Guidance department in special testing needs for standardized tests.
Meet with parents as necessary
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and preferably three years experience in special education in an accredited school; familiarity with diagnostic testing and interpretation of results •Special Education degree preferred.
