Whitby seeks an experienced, innovative and enthusiastic English as an Additional Language teacher (EAL) for grades KG- 8. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional learner to join our dynamic and collaborative faculty and contribute to program development and support for students and classroom teachers.
The EAL teacher works with classroom teachers to promote language development for all learners. We are seeking a candidate with a collaborative approach to providing English language support, in addition, to supporting curriculum development for the Mother Tongue Program. Candidates with an in-depth knowledge of language acquisition theory and practice, developmentally appropriate curriculum, and a demonstrated pattern of effective communication with colleagues, students, administrators, and parents are sought. Candidates should also be interested in developing their technological skills and applications for use in the classroom. The successful candidate will exhibit the highest standards of professionalism. Knowledge and experience of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program would be a distinct advantage.
In depth knowledge of language acquisition theory and practice
Experience offering language acquisition professional development to staff
Experience teaching with technology
Holds a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education
Is EAL certified and/or endorsed
Has a minimum of three years’ experience teaching EAL students
Willingness to engage in IBPYP training and professional development both inside and outside of the regular teacher calendar.
Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background check.
