Job summary: The Staff Accountant and Payroll Coordinator will be responsible for the reconciliation of all bank activity, the analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts and the processing of the bi-monthly payroll for the school. This position will be responsible for the following:
Bi-monthly processing of payroll for the school including data input and analysis of all salary information and ensuring that all payroll items are paid in a timely and accurate manner.
Recording all payroll activity in the General Ledger and calculating and posting quarterly payroll accruals.
Completing the allocation of benefits expenses to all departments on a quarterly basis
Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
As a key person in the Finance and Accounting office, the Staff Accountant and Payroll Coordinator will report to both the Controller and the Director of Human Resources and may be asked to support the Chief Financial Officer on special projects.
Summary of essential job functions
Maintain and improve upon current Payroll processes. Ability to make recommendations and continuously improve processes is a must have attribute for this position.
Ability to correctly onboard/terminate employees and to question payroll items (pay and deductions) during the process.
Assume responsibility for quarterly salary accruals and quarterly benefits allocations. Complete current Affordable Care Act data input in a timely and accurate manner.
Produce the bi-monthly calculation of the school’s 403B contributions to employees’ retirement accounts.
Assist in year-end payroll reporting as well as annual audit activities
Perform other accounting, financial, HR or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time by the Controller, Director of Human Resources or CFO.
Skills and Abilities required
College degree, preferably a degree in Accounting
3-5 years’ experience in a finance/accounting/payroll role
Attention to detail
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports and account reconciliations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word Documents a must. Experience with Blackbaud Accounting Software preferable. Paycom Payroll software desirable as well.
Position is full-time five days per week.
