Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of America’s most prestigious institutions for arts education, performance and fine arts presentations, seeks energetic, dedicated and creative individuals with a desire to supervise and mentor high school students. Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation’s premier fine arts boarding high school with an enrollment of 470-500, has an opening for a part-time Resident Hall Assistant to serve as part of a team of student life professionals. This position is a 10 month hourly position and does not live on campus.
Major job responsibilities would include the following:
Resident Hall Assistants must possess the desire to create and maintain a safe and healthy residential community.
Weekend Resident Hall Assistants provide desk coverage for 16-24 hours per week. Their work hours are Saturdays and Sundays 8am-4pm, and in some cases, one additional weekday, 10am-4pm. The RHA serves as the adult who monitors the building, manages student check-outs, oversees building travel logistics, maintains the front desk and issues that arise, and distributes mail.
Weekend Resident Hall Assistants are also able to pick up additional shifts during the week to cover for other staff members
Resident Hall Assistants regularly communicate (in person, via telephone and via email) with parents and families to provide a variety of information and to receive permission for various student activities.
Facilitates the development of communities that are welcoming and accepting of people of all race and ethnicities, abilities, ages, genders, national origins, religions, and sexual orientations.
Builds relationships with a variety of campus partners in an effort to strengthen student supports tailored to their students’ needs.
Responsible for detailed administrative and record keeping tasks related to the care of students.
Interprets and enforces policies and procedures that relate to student conduct concerns.
As a member of a diverse campus community, actively engages students, facilitates conversations about diversity and social justice, and confronts situations of bias that result from lack of understanding.
