Spanish Teaching Position for the Middle/Upper Schools
Ursuline Academy is seeking a full-time Middle School/Upper School Spanish Teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. We are looking for an experienced and passionate Spanish Teacher to join our World Language team. In addition to teaching multiple levels of Spanish, candidates qualified to teach at the AP level and/or other world languages are strongly preferred.
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of current and best practices of the teaching of a second language as well as the desire and ability to stay aligned with developments in the field of education; expertise with ACTFL standards & practices preferred
Collaborate with the World Language team to continue to develop a strong curriculum map for a 6th through 12th grade Spanish program
Work collaboratively with faculty to allow for integrated experiences for the students
Use a variety of teaching styles and tools so that each student can be successful and demonstrate achievement of desired outcomes
Provide differentiated instruction for students who have limited knowledge of Spanish, as well as native speakers
Speak primarily in Spanish for a majority of the class session, minimizing the use of English
Demonstrate strong classroom management skills across a wide variety of social and emotional needs
Integrate experiential learning opportunities for authentic language acquisition including, but not limited to, international immersion travel, Service Learning opportunities, local field trips and virtual learning.
Know and support the school’s mission statement through professional conduct and actions which demonstrate the core values of the organization
Demonstrate personal and professional cultural competence and strong commitment to learning and teaching in a diverse community
Collaborate with colleagues in the design and implementation of the curriculum within the context of the school’s overall academic program
Initiates growth and change in his/her own intellectual and professional development, seeking out conferences, courses and other opportunities to learn
Attend faculty meetings, curriculum meetings, and in-service days; actively participate in faculty work aligned with the strategic plan
Prepare student progress reports and report cards according to the school year calendar
Write newsletters and openly communicate with families in formal and informal ways
We seek candidates who embrace learner-driven approaches/pedagogy; who aim to use a cross-curricular, transdisciplinary approach and actively seeks collaborative approaches with teachers within and outside the department. Our ideal candidate is proactive in setting up a student-centered classroom environment that goes beyond the lecture format and who utilizes lab-based instruction for a significant portion of the instructional time.
