Position Summary: The Director of Finance & Operations reports to the Head of School and is responsible for the creation, management, and oversight of the school budget and management of human resources, facilities, food service, security, and other activities related to the operations of the school. The Director manages a staff of two employees and our maintenance department, participates as a member of the school’s senior administrative team, and supports several key committees of the Board of Trustees. The capacity to embrace a mission-driven organization with ambitious goals is crucial to this position. The position is to begin upon availability.
Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reportings.
Oversee school business functions, including: tuition billing and collection, accounts payable, payroll, human resources, accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting and compliance, and other business administration activities.
Administer the annual budget and multi- year forecasting process to align with school’s mission and and maintain account records related to the school’s budget.
Oversee the maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Provide financial reports to the school leadership and board.
Serve as the administrative liaison to the Finance and Facilities Committee of the board.
Participate in the development of school strategy, provide recommendations, financial analysis, projections and other data to inform the process.
Collaborate with the Head of School and Board of Trustees in meeting fiduciary responsibilities.
Manage, mentor and develop direct reports, providing constructive and timely feedback.
Ensure that human resource policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conform to legal requirements.
Ensure that the school’s relationships with outside contractors meet the highest standards.
Ensure and provide for an annual audit of the school’s financial position and schedule the yearly report to the audit committee of the board.
Remain current with business management trends and cultivate professional standards by participating in professional development opportunities and network within local, regional, and national associations.
Understand the culture and climate of the school and the wider educational environment.
Model and foster ethical standards, integrity, and respect for colleagues, alumni/ae, parents and students in the conduct of the school’s business.
Communicate clearly and enthusiastically with all staff and stakeholders.

Bachelor's degree required. MBA preferred.
Experience with an independent school or non-profit preferred, but all candidates evaluated.
