Sandy Spring Friends School is looking for an enthusiastic, creative individual to join our middle school aftercare team. Aftercare staff members work with groups of children, grades 6th-8th, helping with homework, initiating art activities, and playing indoor and outdoor games. He/she must enjoy working with adolescents in a casual, friendly environment and also possess the ability to communicate effectively with parents. This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position without benefits
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred and the ideal candidate will have Elementary or Middle School education backgrounds. Previous experience working with children is required and specific school experience is a plus. He/she will be an organized self-starter with strong people skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills, and is able to juggle the demands of multiple people. A willingness to have fun in a creative and spontaneous way is essential along with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Quaker beliefs and practices is helpful but not required.
Required hours are:
3:15pm-6:30pm (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday)
Physical Requirements: The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to rearrange furniture for activities is occasionally required.
